    How Blood Group Type Determines The Onset of Type II Diabetes Mellitus

    What diseases do each blood group get?


    Research shows that Type II Diabetes occurs in people with Blood Group B but is more prevalemt in those with Blood Group O. It is possible that those with Type A, Type B or Type AB blood groups may develop DM post receiving a Type O blood transfusion.



    Type O have Beta Thalassemia trait leading to corresponding Low serum b12 level deficiency.

    From this, it can be deduced that Vitamin B12 deficiency may be the cause of Type II Diabetes Mellitus.

    This can be explained re: vit b12 co metabolic pathway in the glucose transport system.

    B12 occupies the haem units so less glucose is bound to red blood cells. Low B12 levels means more glucose molecules can bind to red blood cells, raising blood glucose levels and being stored as glycogen raising HbA1c. If the rate of glucose binding to red blood cells via the glucose transport system occurs at a faster or higher rate than what can be stored as glycogen utilising insulin for this process and at a higher rate than insulin can be produced and released, type II diabetes occurs eg. Increased dietary consumption.


    Therefore supplementing with Vit B12 until high Vitamin B12 levels are achieved could be an avenue in treating Type II DM in clinical management.



    NB. Type 1 diabetes is linked to insulomas. The pancreatic tumours, in this case insuloma can be treated with chromium picolinate and the Type I DM will resolve.
